The design of the light green and first row of green on 143 are from '300 Crochet Blocks'.  The outer two rounds are free crocheted.  I'm particularly pleased with the overall look of this square!

So far, the blocks in this book are too small to use without adding extra rows.  Lots of room for getting inventive :)











For some reason, the fact that I tend to twist the design sometimes as I crochet is extremely obvious in this square.  I tried to straighten it out for the picture, but it wasn't working.  It will need full on blocking to get my directional twist out of it.

The interior of the square up until the navy blue row are from 300 Crochet Blocks.  The outer two rows are free crocheted.

It was a slightly hazy day, but yesterday evening on the beach in Edmonds WA was a wonderful way to close out the day.

The orange interior of this block comes from '300 Classic Blocks for Crochet Projects', and it is #6 I think.  Many (if not most) of the blocks in this book are not the traditional square, and are more like motif's instead.  The outside of the square I just free crocheted in order to make it into a square.

I'm thinking I'll be working in this book for awhile, because there are 300!  I've had a bit of an aversion up to now, because all of blocks are done in an ecru cord of some sort.  I am liking it more now, because the motifs are there, but the color is completely up to me, as is the eventual finishing of the block.  Takes longer to get done, though, because I have to 'think' about it :)  Time to put the brain to more use.

Both Romania and Iraq visited this blog during the last 24 hours.  Welcome to both countries!

All six blocks today are the same pattern, which is from 200 Crochet Blocks.

I have gotten several variegated yarns of late, and wanted to see how they work up.  Most of these yarns are Bernat, and are acrylic yarns.The yarn was soft and wonderful, and I'd say the results vary wildly.  Interesting though!  I really like 136, 139 and 140.  141 is Deborah Norville 'Parrot', not so much.  Maybe Jimmy Buffet would like it :)

The yarn in #137 is cotton yarn from Universal Yarn.  This is, hands down, the nicest cotton I have ever worked with.  I love the color combination, which perhaps is better suited for a larger project.  I only had one skein.  The color is no longer available.  Wah!  However, I bought it at So Much Yarn in Seattle (I think I remember that at least) and hopefully they still have some.  They had a great selection of cotton yarns.  Even though they give short shrift to the crocheter and tried to talk me into coming back to take knitting lessons, I'll be back if for no other reason than that cotton!

Since it is Caturday today, here are a couple of photos of Mr. Bernard being sweetly cute.  He's a big hunk of male kitty, so  I don't let him hear me say that!

He considers it his duty to 'help' me with my crochet projects.  He has pretty much given up trying to eat the yarn, thankfully.  This will be a great savings on the vet bills, so way to go, Mr. Bernard.

Variations on a theme:  Three different color combinations, same design.  I have some new variegated yarns and wanted to see how they work up.  I know a lot of people don't care for variegated yarns, but I love them, for some reason.

Love it in #132.  Very good, would use it in a granny again.









Don't think it really works in #133.  The color changes allow too much color in one area, makes it look blocky and off.  Nice color combination though, and I would love to see it in a scarf.















By the time I took this picture I had next to no light left, so I had to use the flash.  It left this looking over exposed, however, the yarn really is this bright, and I really do like it.

And I had one more, but do you think I can find that square now?  Oh no.  I think I made that one while I was waiting for Ramona today, it is probably still out there.  And tomorrow is soon enough :).

There will be more, although I might switch to another square.  Bernat yarns were on sale, you see....

And welcome, welcome to Taiwan and Latvia, today's first time visitors!  My grandmother was either Lithuanian or Latvian, no one is quite sure.  I can claim no ancestral relationship with Taiwan, however, but am glad to see it here just the same.  73 different countries have visited this blog, and I really do wish I had thought of spotlighting some of them before now.

Back in the saddle again!  It's hard to crochet when you have a two day migraine, so severe...and it turns out it was a tooth going bad, instead.

Can I afford a root canal?  Of course not!  On antibiotics and pain meds, while I figure out what I'm going to do about it.  Good day to shake the  money tree, eh?

I think all five of these are from 200 Crochet Blocks...one of them might be from somewhere else and if so, it will be from 99 Granny Squares.

Anyhow, I'm really liking the way the color combinations turned out.  I sure love those rich, saturated colors!

Welcome to Cuba and Egypt!  The latest two new countries to visit this blog.  I was particularly surprised to see Cuba appear.  Apparently the embargo can't stop computer access. However, I noticed that while Feedjit reported the presence of a Cuban visitor, the Flags of the World tracker thing ignored it like it never happened.

After a short break for the sake of my mental health,   Although 127 is very autumn-like in color, 126 I took as far away from that color scheme as possible.

I bought several skeins at a church rummage sale, and while talking to the woman who was selling the yarn, she said to me:  "I hope you don't use black in your designs.  I just hate it when people use black!".  Well.  The very next square had to have black, for sure!

It feels cool (as in temperature dropping) when I look at it.  This is very good for women of a certain age, if you know what I mean.  I may have to make an entire afghan with this color scheme, ha ha.

And not to give short shrift to 127, I very much like those colors together, too.

It was a very good day for garage sale shopping!  LOTS of yarn, from three different sales, a pasta spoon, because I used mine to reach something on a high shelf and then forgot where I put it, an amplifier (to use with the stratocaster electric guitar that I won a  couple of years ago) that I was absolutely ecstatic about when I bought it, several scarves and I think that's about it.  I left with $20 in my pocket, and had some change left over, so I am thinking I did exceedingly well with my purchases.  Oh, and I found my pasta spoon within minutes upon my return home, so now I have a spare for the next time this happens (and it will).

How do I know which countries have visited?  I downloaded a free 'Flag Counter", the URL of which is:  http://s10.flagcounter.com/.  I also have http://feedjit.com/ downloaded.  The free version, which is what I have, lets you know when readers arrive and the country they are from, in real time.  The pro version has a lot more bells and whistles, but for now, free works for me.  Am I economical?  Do I have a significant amount of Scottish heritage?  Was there ever any question?

Granny 125 and Blooming Pillow WIP

My blooming pillow is coming along.  I haven't decided, but this may be it.  It all depends on whether or not I decide it needs to be a floor pillow.  I love it!

I had an hour and a half to spend this afternoon, and a bag of yarn along with me.  I decided to just start working on a square and see where it led me.  I'm calling it the "what if I do this?" square, because every stitch that went in was decided on in that way.  It needs some tweaking, but I like this square very much.  It has popcorns, clusters, front posts, along with doubles, singles, have doubles etc.

I'm thinking I can safely call this my own design, what say you all?

I won these wonderful pieces of art on TinnieGirl's  website.  Cathy, they are quite wonderful, and I can't thank you enough!  I've had my ups and downs lately, and to receive "Two Parts Hope" and "Three Parts Faith" is a real blessing.
