Grannies 101, 102, 103

101

102

103
Now that I'm in the 100's, I think it is time to start working my way through another design book.  I think I have made at least one of every design in 50 Fabulous Crochet Squares.  The few that I did not make were squares that I just didn't care for for some reason.

These squares are from designs in 99 Granny Squares to Crochet.  Already, I know I do not like this book of designs as much as the last.  The photos are placed in just a few plates, and the instructions are in the middle of the book.  Since the instructions are kind of hard to follow, it is a hassle having to flip around in the book.  I constantly have to refer to the photo in order to figure out just exactly what is meant.  I've altered parts of two of the designs just to get them to work for me.

And so far, there have been several straighforward traditional grannies, or just very simple designs, and I am looking for more interest.  As I go through the book, I'm sure I'll find more of interest.

Can you tell I really like strong colors?  My favorite today is 101.

Thank you everyone who has been so kind to comment.

  1. I DO like strong colors. Granny Squares are made for showing off strong colors, in my opinion.

  2. Wow fantastic granny squares. I hate it when the patterns aren't correct. I wish I was like you and spent the time to work it out. I just usually frog and start on something else. love the colours

    1. Oh I don't do it all the time. I have odds and ends of crochet in a pile just for those. LOL

  3. Hi SJ, I find lots of pattern errors all of the time, especially on garment patterns, it's like no one has checked them for the designer!! I always tell my pupils to be alert when reading patterns and to be patient, sit back, take stock and try to figure it out! Granted it's not always possible, but I find that Crochet is very forgiving so you CAN make an adjustment or a mistake here and there & no one will notice. I love your new squares. Have you thought of making up your own Granny Square design like I did a couple of times e.g. Dart Board square (see GAD 119). Well done for catching up so quickly and with such lovely squares too! 1. Hi Ali, Yes, I have done a couple of my own designs, #88 was one of them. I've done another, but I now need to redo it. It's going to be nice once the bugs are worked out. Dart Board was great, I saw that one.

      Thanks!

  4. Sandy,
I admire our determination in making the grannies and they are quite catchy and expressive with strong colors! They are all fantastic but my heart tilts towards 101!
And 95 - My... I am head over heels with that one!

    1. My comment should say "your determination", but my keyboard is stubborn and leading a life of its own :)

    2. I agree with you on #95, it is the best! I'm going to make a few more in complimentary colors (different colors=different squares, right? So that they can count as Granny A Day entries) and make a pillow. I love that square.

  5. ooh, I love 101 too! The colours are really punchy. Do they all turn out the same size? I was just wondering if you were going to put them together into a lovely blanket of different squares?

    1. I seem to have three main sizes of squares. I laid them out together a couple of weeks ago and at that time they already covered the entire top of my queen sized bed! Once I have 365 squares they can be sorted into sizes and will make several blankets~

      Thank you for visiting~
